Ionic Stone was created at the beginning of millennium when we realised that the UK building industry had been missing something basic but vital - good quality natural stone tiles at reasonable prices. Ionic is now one of the UK's largest stone distribution and project management businesses. The current HQ in St Albans with 20,000 sqft storage-facility was acquired in 2006. After the global credit crisis, a decision was taken to vertically enlarge the firm into stone processing. In 2012, a state-of-the-art processing plant in Turkiye began its operations and two marble quarries (one in Burdur and the other in Balikesir) were acquired. In 2015, the sustained growth of the company led to the acquisition of a purpose-built 70,000 sq ft distribution centre in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire. The UK operation houses more than 200,000 m2 of tiles and slabs imported from all over the world.
Based in Denizli, the factory specialises in the processing of premium natural stone selections originating in Turkiye with superior and precise fabrication made possible by the most modern machinery. Ionic Stone’ broad assortment includes exclusive, unique and hard-to-process stones: from exquisite but delicate marble ranges of Taurus Mountains, to warm-coloured grand travertine types of Pamukkale. Moreover, the processing plant is able to mass-produce innovative cuttings of marble tiles, such as different types of hexagons, trapezoids and chevrons. Ionic Stone has the ability to cut any exclusive shapes in a cost-effective way, should the volume be sufficient. To this end, Ionic Stone is the first mass marble tile producer of innovative formats in the world.
Both in 2021 and 2022, Ionic Stone received four “The Year's Best Supplier” awards from organisations in the UK and the US. Moreover, in 2022 Ionic Stone was the winner of an A Design Award for its marble hexagon production.
In addition to working with chains and wholesalers, the factory provides materials to prestigious projects around the globe. Some of the projects are:
- Grand Hyatt Doha, Qatar
- Marina One, Singapore
- Nida Tower Istanbul, Turkey
- Hilton Baku, Azerbaijan
- Louis Vitton Tel Aviv, Israel
- Financial District Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
In 2014, the R&D division of the factory, called ION, was established. Ionic Stone is the only Turkish stone processing company that has been certified by two ministries of Turkey (Science, Technology & Industry, and Economy) to bear the "R&D Company" status as it requires constant investment in Research & Development, and formally set procedures. The R&D Company status enables companies to receive incentives for the R&D activities that they perform. ION worked to improve the status of the current machinery, invented new ways of processing, and mak special machines for the factory. In addition, after several years of trading in supplying natural stone resin lines to processing factories in Turkiye and Europe, in 2022 ION partnered with Breton SpA, the world's largest technology supplier and machine maker in its industry to from IONBRETON, a company that specialises in making highly technological machines for the stone processing sector.
